After weeks of speculation since the final episode aired, it’s official: Chris Rene and Astro have both been signed to Epic Records, the same label headed up by L.A. Reid that has also signed winner Melanie Amaro! What do the newly signed music artists have to say about landing a record deal without winning The X Factor? And will favorite finalist Josh Krajcik be thrown a similar bone by a label as well? Read on for all the details!
Chris Rene may have finished in third place on The X Factor, but a record deal with the label that also signed the winner isn’t a bad consolation prize at all.
“I’ve dreamt about this moment my whole life,” said Rene to EW.com. “And now its here. Working with L.A. Reid — ‘Big Homie’ – is a dream come true; he’s a great man.”
Astro, the 15-year-old rapper who was also under L.A. Reid’s mentorship throughout the competition, was eliminated from the show on December 1st, and yet has also scored himself a record deal as well. Many speculated that he would sign with Jay-Z’s label, Roc Nation, but he too will be housed under the Epic Records umbrella.
So where’s Josh Krajcik amidst all these contracts being handed out to X Factor contestants? No worries, Krajcik fans: he’s been busy sorting out his own set!
“Josh is taking his time to get the best possible deal and it might not be with Epic Records,” a sourced dished to HollywoodLife.com. The source also shared that Columbia Records, RCA Records and even Simon Cowell’s SyCo Music have all been in discussions with Krajcik.
“He’s so versatile, Josh has actually had more options than Chris and Astro, who everyone knew would sign with L.A. Reid regardless,” the insider continued. Throughout the last week, Krajcik has been in Los Angeles taking meetings and is expected to sign a deal within the next month or two.
